A 4K UHD release was planned but unfortunately the original film elements could not be found, so an improved Blu-ray release was produced instead. All bonus features are included from the 2026 Blu-ray and the 2005 DVD release, as well as a hidden DVD extra for a failed commentary track from director Shane Meadows, producer Mark Herbert and lead actor Paddy Considine, which had to be abandoned after almost 9 minutes because they couldn't stop laughing and had no idea what to talk about. This was not included on either the old 2009 Blu-ray or the new 2026 Blu-ray, so it has been unearthed from the 2005 DVD for posterity.

"We looked extensively into the possibility of a new 4K restoration, however, the only materials available to us meant this was not a feasible option and the original elements could not be located. We have however undertaken extensive work on the HD master to improve upon any previous release. The work was undertaken by Silver Salt Restoration who gave the following feedback:"
"The film was shot on super-16mm film and the HD transfer was created via film to digital transfer processes in use at the time. This predated modern film scanners with technologies that greatly improved warping on the cuts. The smaller surface area of the 16mm film and the presence of joins (splices) can exacerbate the warping issues that were commonplace with these older processes. Many warps and instabilities have been corrected mainly on cuts but also mid shot in the HD master. The HD master also contained film dirt from the original transfer, so numerous hours were spent manually cleaning up film dirt, damage and scratches."
