Synopsis:
In 1936, David Carr (Ian Hart), a young unemployed Communist worker from Liverpool, decides to leave England to join the fight against General Franco's fascist forces in the Spanish Civil War. Upon crossing the border into Catalonia, he joins the POUM (Worker's Party of Marxist Unification), an anti-fascist militia fighting on the Aragon front. Alongside a passionate, international coalition of idealists—including Blanca (Rosana Pastor), a fierce Spanish militiawoman—David experiences both the raw camaraderie of revolutionary solidarity and the heady collectivism of liberated agrarian villages. However, as the political landscape fractures, the revolutionaries find themselves targeted not only by Franco's nationalists, but also by Soviet-backed Stalinist factions attempting to consolidate political control in Barcelona. David is forced to confront the tragic betrayal of his ideals from within his own movement.
