Synopsis:
Charlotte Castang (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is an unhappy, fiercely rebellious 13-year-old girl longing to escape her bleak, working-class provincial town and her emotionally distant family. Bored during a humid summer vacation, she becomes utterly obsessed with Clara Bauman, a glamorous, sophisticated young piano prodigy of the same age who is visiting the area for a high-profile concert. Desperate to break free from her mundane reality, Charlotte fantasizes about being hired as Clara’s personal manager and companion, leading her into a bittersweet, raw, and moving psychological exploration of adolescence, class envy, and disillusionment.
