Synopsis:
This monumental East German (DEFA) historical epic serves as the definitive cinematic chronicle of the final, tragic, and heroic chapters of Ernst Thälmann, the legendary leader of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Picking up the narrative in 1930, the film thoroughly deconstructs the turbulent sunset of the Weimar Republic, showcasing Thälmann’s desperate, unyielding campaign to forge a united anti-fascist workers' front to stall the rapid, sinister rise of Adolf Hitler's Nazi party.
