Ah Long (Chow Yun Fat) is a single father who works as a lowly construction worker to support and raise his son Porky. Possessing a strong bond with his son, the two are happy despite their struggles just to get by. Their relationship is soon tested when Sylvia (Sylvia Chang), Porky’s mother, unexpectedly shows up ten years after she and Ah Long parted. Deciding that her son’s situation would be better with her, Sylvia tries to get Porky to come back with her to the States, forcing Ah Long to fight for his relationship with his son.
