Synopsis:
In 1970s Poland, Agnieszka, a fiery and determined young filmmaker, fighting against institutional censorship, decides to base her university diploma film on Mateusz Birkut, a legendary bricklayer who was once celebrated as a hyper-productive Stakhanovite hero of Socialist Realism in the 1950s. Tracking down old newsreels and interviewing his former colleagues, friends, and estranged wife, Agnieszka peels back the layers of state-sanctioned propaganda. She uncovers a tragic narrative of political manipulation, bureaucratic betrayal, and Birkut's eventual disillusionment and mysterious disappearance from public life after standing up for his persecuted comrades.
