As much acclaim as they've received, the Pixies' full-lengths were rather difficult affairs, especially for the casual music fan.
But they had some individual songs that were absolutely fantastic (witness "Where is My Mind"--especially in its appearance in Fight Club). And now, in the age of the downloadable single, that becomes even more obvious. Enter the greatest hits album and our problems are solved. For a band that only had 6 songs ever even chart, the greatest hits concept can be a little difficult: witness 1997s poorly realized Death to the Pixies.
But this compilation has hit the nail right on the head, compiling all the band's singles and some excellent b-sides plus a few album tracks to ease the transition for anyone who wants to pick up Come On Pilgrim or Surfer Rosa after listening to this. (rateyourmusic.com)
