Trama:
Ci sono due uomini di nome Jeffrey Lebowski. Uno è un hippie pigro, fumatore di erba e bevitore di White Russian, soprannominato "il Dude". L'altro è un multimilionario che si è fatto da sé, veterano di guerra, che vive in una villa con un assistente a tempo pieno a causa della sua disabilità. Le loro strade si incrociano quando la moglie trofeo del milionario deve dei soldi a un noto produttore di film pornografici e viene tenuta prigioniera in attesa del pagamento. I sicari assoldati da questo produttore di film pornografici inizialmente affrontano il Dude perché non sapevano che avesse lo stesso nome. Volendo vendicarsi del suo tappeto ormai distrutto, il Dude si mette alla ricerca del milionario Lebowski. Ciò che segue porta il Dude e i suoi amici di bowling Walter e Donnie in una missione piena di intrighi, rapimenti, pornografia, nichilisti, White Russian e ancora White Russian.
