Plot
Dr. Malcolm Sayer, a shy research physician, uses an experimental drug to "awaken" the
catatonic victims of a rare disease. Leonard is the first patient to receive the
controversial treatment. His awakening, filled with awe and enthusiasm, proves a rebirth
for Sayer too, as the exuberant patient reveals life's simple but unutterably sweet
pleasures to the introverted doctor.
Trama
Tratto dal libro di Oliver Sacks che era una relazione medica sui "miracoli" indotti dalla
droga L-Dopa, somministrata tra il 1969 e il 1973 nel Mount Carmel Hospital di New York a
più di duecento malati, sopravvissuti a una grave epidemia di encefalite letargica che si
era diffusa nel mondo tra il 1917 e il 1927, il film, sceneggiato da Steven Zaillan,
sviluppa una delle venti storie, quella del risveglio di Leonard L.
