Plot Summary

This is our release of Appleseed (2004) — original Japanese title: アップルシード (Appurushīdo). Directed by Shinji Aramaki, this film is the full-CG adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk manga, marking an early and influential use of 3D animation in anime filmmaking.
This release includes multiple audio options: two English 5.1 dubs (the Sentai and Geneon versions), the original Japanese 5.1 track, and a Japanese 2.0 commentary featuring director Shinji Aramaki and producer Fumihiko Sori, who discuss the creative process and technical challenges of bringing Appleseed into CG.
Extras are a combined selection from the U.S. Blu-ray and the Collector’s Edition DVD, covering the film’s production, animation techniques, and its place within the broader Appleseed franchise.
