Power and machinations, victories and defeats, betrayal and traitors – the more than 50-year history of the Central Intelligence Agency is marked by exciting yet mysterious events. This three-part Discovery Channel documentary, with the help of contemporary witness interviews and extensive archival material, provides insights into the activities and strategy of the American intelligence agency. It illuminates the background and risks of an organization that shapes the fate of the world and repeatedly makes headlines.
CIA: America's Secret Warriors looks in-depth at those "Cold Warriors" who stood on the front lines of America's secret wars. Often called upon to operate outside and sometimes above the law, this series considers both the actions of the Central Intelligence Agency and the consequences of those actions on both the political future of the United States and the moral fabric of the world's most powerful democracy. Do the ends justify the often questionable means of this agency?
In the shadow world of real-life espionage, Discovery was granted unprecendented access to examine the triumphs -- and troubles -- of the CIA. Once imposing, the 50-year-old Agency stands at a crossroads, its defining mission completed. The extraordinary secrecy that allowed the CIA to protect U.S. interests also concealed botched operations and involvement in coups, arms distributions and assassinations. Moles, spooks and foreign assets provide a revealing look at the CIA's spectacular successes and uncertain future.
This three-hour series coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Central Intelligence Agency, and examines how the Agency's covert operations and intelligence analysis has affected the world in the years since World War II. Using archival footage and interviews about espionage efforts during World War II and later actions in Cuba, Iran and Central America, this biography of an institution chronicled the successes and excesses of this enormous agency. The programs raised the question of why these "warrior priests" are needed now that the Cold War has ended. Includes interviews and historical anecdotes as well a look at the future of the CIA.

3. Blowback
Blowback considers the consequences of the CIA's involvement around the world. The program's assertions about the agency's involvement in the international drug trade are especially controversial.

Examine the origins of international terrorism. Following the end of the Cold War between the East and West, the CIA encountered repercussions from the developing world, partly as a consequence of previous policies. One significant incident was the attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, which represented a form of retaliation. In 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, the United States supported Afghan resistance as part of its strategic effort to counter Soviet influence. Under a top-secret directive from President Reagan, the CIA supplied weapons to the Islamic militant group Mujahideen. Over time, the conflict shifted focus to jihadist movements, which eventually led to acts of terrorism against the United States. These events mark the beginning of modern international terrorism, which has since become one of the most pressing security challenges worldwide.
