Release Notes
The new CC UHD/BDs are the only releases that were available to me with a transfer of the original 4-track magnetic stereo track used for select theatrical presentations of the film. The 2005 R1US NTSC DVD released by Universal likely also has this track, but this DVD was unavailable for comparison. The old BDs have a 2.0 downmix of the 2014 5.1 surround remix. The 2014 surround remix is identical between the four BDs, with the exception of the CC 5.1 which features some minor filtering. To avoid this, the old USA BD’s 5.1 track was used as it’s 24-bit like the FRA but without any intro logo that needed to be cut out. Criterion once again set their subtitles too bright so they were tonemapped to a more conservative 58% white (and all of the other subtitles were tonemapped to match).
